Don’t Let Your Voice Get Drowned Out By What You Say!
But wait that doesn’t make sense! Isn’t what I say, my voice?
No. What you say are just words, how you say it is your voice. Have you ever read two different post by two different bloggers but both on the exact same subject? Even if they are saying pretty much the same thing, you can be drawn into one and yet repulsed by the other. This is the power of your voice.
Lets Take A Look At The Voice Of Two Successful Bloggers:
JohnChow
I always wondered how John Chow was able to have so many subscribers yet the majority of his posts are about the massive meals he eats when he goes out to lunch or dinner - what makes his blog so gripping that 1000’s of subscribers visit his blog daily in a cult like fashion? It is his voice. He projects himself with the utmost confidence that could easily be mistaken for arrogance - but that is who he is, and his visitors like that about him.
Caroline Middlebrook
With Caroline every single one of her posts look like it has taken her hours and you can tell that she puts a lot of effort them. When reading her posts you can tell that she is an analyzer and that she liks to find out and break down exactly how things work. Once again this is what her visitors want.
Imagine if John and Caroline swapped their voices and John was the higly analytical one and caroline was the uber confident almost arrogant one? Would they be as successful at blogging as they currently are? I honestly don’t think they would.
Why Is Your Voice So Important?
It’s what separates you from every other blogger, and if you are a new blogger this could be your only advantage! When I started blogging back in August expecting to instantly become the hottest young blogger on the block, I instead found myself as another blogger in the crowd, with nothing special to offer - except my voice.
What I found was that when I tried to post like my favourite professional bloggers it just didn’t work - it just wasn’t me and people could tell. But then when I started just being myself and finding my own voice, I started to see my traffic growing and my feed count increasing - people wanted to read my blog not only because of what I had to say but how I said it!
So All I can really say is find your own unique voice, don’t worry that you aren’t as knowledgeable as ProBlogger or making as much as Shoemoney - be yourself and you will find that people will want to hear from you as well!
